Immerse yourself in the creative process with daily foundations classes alongside focused concentrations of your choice designed to expand your art practice, grow your portfolio and help you prepare for college and beyond. Our faculty of practicing artists and educators guide students through new (and sometimes untraditional!) materials and processes with projects that challenge students to listen and develop their own voice. ST.ART Intensive isn’t an opportunity to perfect traditional skills, it’s an open door for you to discover your own style and voice as an artist.

Academics
ST.ART Intensive classes are designed for students to experiment with new and traditional materials, techniques and equipment. Students participate in studio sessions Monday-Thursday and Fridays are reserved for community meetings, independent studio time and community critiques. Instructors will be available for office hours throughout the program for students to receive feedback and guidance on in-progress works. Students will work to complete 2-5 artworks during the program, including a mini-series in their chosen concentration media.
Foundations
Students will explore the fundamental elements and principles of art making through a daily Foundations class. From 2D and 3D design approaches,
observational drawing, data visualization, large scale drawing, artistic ideation and more. Alongside studio
work students will be exposed to a variety of contemporary and historical artists in order to provide
inspiration and context to each student’s individual exploration. At the close of summer students
will have a better understanding of the foundational techniques, materials and processes of art making as
well as a collection of completed artworks that highlight their individual creative investigations.
College Prep
Each element of the ST.ART Intensive supports students as they prepare to apply for college. Studio Sessions (aka classes) guide students through the fundamentals of Art + Design to generate new artworks for artistic exploration and the admissions portfolio. Throughout the summer students will engage in weekly conversations about the admissions process (from artist statements to resumes to application short answer questions and more) through Friday community meetings, working to generate a sketching practice and tap into their reasons for creating and studying art. Community meetings will be led by the ST.ART Team and invited guests from Austin-area Universities.
Final Exhibition
All students will showcase at least one artwork created during the summer in the final exhibition, hosted at St. Edward’s University Fine Arts Gallery. Friends, families and the Austin community will be invited to join in celebration at an opening event!
